"Hyōmen’ is the Japanese word for surface. When I worked in cabinetmaking workshops in Japan, the word was often used in discussions about the tactile and visual qualities of a surface. The Hyōmen bench offers a tactile experience. Using a CNC-cutter, tiny tactile cavities have been milled into a thick oak plank. The legs are made of concrete with a smooth surface. All the materials will change in appearance as they patinate in the outdoor environment.
